FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Dolores District Plans Winter Pile Burning
DOLORES, Colorado – November 8, 2017 – The Dolores Ranger District plans to conduct pile burning in several areas of the San Juan National Forest over the winter when there is sufficient snow on the ground to contain flames. All piles consist of slash remaining from timber sales.
· In the Chicken Creek area, five miles north of Mancos, 100 piles will be burned across 25 acres of National Forest lands near County Road 41 and Forest Road 385. Smoke may be visible from Highway 184.
· In the Rock Springs area, eight miles east of Dolores, 300 piles across 30 acres of National Forest lands will be burned near Forest Roads 556 and 557. Smoke may be visible from Highway 184.
· In the Lake Canyon area, 11 miles east of Dove Creek, 25 piles across 25 acres of National Forest lands will be burned near Forest Roads 506 and 216. Smoke may be visible from Highway 491.
