Two factors have emerged as the primary determinants of a home's ability to survive a wildfire
- the quality of the defensible space, and
- the structure’s ignitability.
Together, these two factors create a concept called the Home Ignition Zone (HIZ). A home can survive a wildfire by removing ignition sources within the HIZ. FireWise of Southwest Colorado is partnering with the Cortez Fire Protection District with support from the Colorado Association of Realtors and Four Corners Board of Realtors to offer this workshop. Participants will learn how to recognize the many vulnerabilities homes have to radiation and ember showers from wildfires. FireWise is a local nonprofit that helps residents become more aware and prepared for wildfires. ?
